Learning where and how to retire in paradise can mean different things for different people. According to MSN, the answer for a growing number of Americans making the jump into early retirement is leaving home and heading to a country with a lower cost of living. Many people consider paradise a tropical island getaway. These days, the baby boomers are finally beginning to retire. Since this trend has begun and will be advancing soon, soon-to-be retirees are thinking about moving out of the states to a warmer climate. When considering retiring to your paradise, consider these ideas for an easier transition:

  1. First of all, make sure you understand culture shock and the possibility that it may happen. Some people never really adjust to a different culture or to the idea that they will always be a foreigner, no matter how many others in the same situation live in their chosen community. Many websites, magazines and newsletters pertaining to international living are in the business of promoting and establishing real estate and tours, which means they have a considerable interest in making it look as if living abroad is a fairy tale. Many experts on living abroad also say that renting a home in your chosen country first for six months or so will help you decide whether to move there permanently. It is a good idea to set enough money aside so that, if you need to, you can move home again.
  2. The cost of living is lower in many foreign countries, but knowing how much money is needed to retire is extremely important. If you are planning to visit the U.S. often, it is also a good idea to calculate the amount you will need to do that as well.
  3. Laws differ greatly in other countries compared to the U.S. It is a good idea to become familiar with the laws and customs of a country before you decide that it is the paradise you want to retire to.
  4. Finally , it is a good idea to find out what paperwork is needed before moving out of the country. Most countries will require immigration paperwork to be completed along with other forms of paperwork.

Even though moving to a paradise may seem like a dream, it is important to know the reality of leaving the U.S. Knowing how to retire in paradise can save future hassles and regret.
