Learning how to ride in a road bike race means that you will have to know how to ride very well, and that you will have to have built up your endurance and strength so that you can last the race. You will also need quality equipment that you are very comfortable operating, and that you can ride fast. Following is some basic advice on how to ride in a road bike race.

How to Ride in a Road Bike Race

  1. Begin by finding the perfect biking equipment. A quality road bike, racing outfit, helmet, water bottle, and anything else needed will make your racing experience much better, so visit any pro bike shop and find what you need if you have not got it all already.
  2. Next, sign up for a race that it is some time away. You will need to perfect your biking abilities in the mean time to make sure that you will last, and be fast throughout the course of the road bike race.
  3. Begin practicing. Ride every day, increasing the length and pace (though keeping it steady) each time, as you feel able. Hit the gym, too. Work upper and lower body muscles at least a couple of times per week each, as doing so will tone your body, strengthen it, and burn off extra fat.
  4. Start jogging long distances to increase you endurance. This will be very important once you are actually in the race, as fatigue can set in easily if you are not adequately prepared.
  5. Race. On race day, use what you have practiced. Pace yourself so that you have a fast but steady course, drink water when necessary, and ride well. Try to keep your body low, so that you are aerodynamic, and avoid fatigue by slowing your pace when necessary, if you have to. Do all of this, and try to come in at first place.

Learning how to ride in a road bike race takes a lot of time and practice. Your body will have to be in perfect shape, and you will need to maintain a steady pace, which requires much endurance and resistance to fatigue, to do very well.
