You love skateboarding and want to know how to ride skateboards the right way. Skateboarding has increased recently as a sport of interest for a lot of people. It has become more and more popular over the years. A professional skateboarder makes it look easy, but there is a lot of hard work that goes into becoming a great skateboarder. There are numerous tricks and flips that one can do on a skateboard, but first you must learn the basics of how to ride on a skateboard.

  1. Learn how to position your feet. Stand on the board to find a comfortable position for your feet. To begin skateboarding place on foot at the front of your skateboard and use the other foot to push off of the ground to help get you going. Once you start rolling on your skateboard pick up your back foot and put it on the board to ride. Push off again with your back foot every time the skateboard begins to slow down.
  2. Practice your balance. Learn to balance first while the board is stationary.  Once you begin to balance while the board is rolling remember to center your feet just behind the trunks on both ends of the skate board. To help balance put your hands out to the side while riding the board and bend your knees slightly to help maintain your balance.
  3. Practice making a turn. To make a turn lean your body towards the direction that you want to turn. To turn right shift your weight to the right side, and to turn left shift your weight to the left side. If you want to turn a little quicker balance the rear wheels and turn the front wheels in the direction you want to turn. It will take some practice to successfully be able to turn.
  4. Learn how to brake. The easiest way to brake it to learn how to footbrake. To footbrake you simply use your back foot to brake by dragging it in the ground to decrease your speed until you eventually come to a stop. When you get a little more comfortable with skateboarding you can also heel drag by dragging your heel on the ground with the front half of your foot still on the ground.
