Just put your harness on and now you need to know how to rig a harness in climbing? Rigging a harness ensures extras safety when you are rock climbing. A climbing harness is for physical safety and can reduce your falling rate significantly. If you do happen to fall during rock climbing, a harness in climbing will keep your fall under control. It is simple to rig a harness in climbing and only takes a few extra minuets of your time to secure that extra safety feature.

To rig a harness in climbing you need:

  • Safety harness
  • Anchor
  • Rope
  1. Put your harness on. Pull the harness up onto your body around your waist. Once you slide both arms into the straps, snap and fasten the strap around your waist. Grab the leg straps between your legs and buckle the straps around your legs comfortably and securely.
  2. Attach your anchor. Use a double knot to secure your anchor on a solid anchor point like a tree. Make sure your safety cord is attached to the anchor to keep you safe while testing your anchor. Do a little test by adding pressure to make sure the anchor is secure.
  3. Tie your hoops and your knots. To secure your harness in climbing you are going to need to do some loops and tie your knot like a figure eight. Tug on your rope to make sure that your knots are tight. Make sure that when you tie the rope the leg loops and the waist belt work to support you.
  4. Double check if your harness is secure. Check your harness connections, fastens and straps. Make sure everything is hooked properly, tightly and securely. Double check your knots and test all of you lines one last time. You are now ready and have rigged your harness in climbing.
