How To Secure A Wireless Network On Linksys

Need to know how to secure a wireless network on Linksys? Securing a Wireless network On a Linksys router is fairly simple. A wireless signal can have a far reach and be accessed readily by unwanted users. It is always good to keep your wireless signal secure. Securing your wireless signal will keep sensitive information from being shared openly.

1. To secure a wireless network on Linksys wireless router, first login to the router using your web browser. The login address may vary depending on the model of Linksys router. This should bring up a login box where you must enter your login information.
2. On Linksys routers, the default login information is as follows, "User: Admin", "Password: Admin". You can look up the model number of your router to see if it uses a different default login.
3. Once logged in, click on the wireless tab. Here it displays various sub tabs horizontally. Under "Wireless Network Name (SSID)" give your network a unique name.
4. Click on the Wireless Security tab.  It should be defaulted to "Disabled". Click on the tab labeled disabled and it will bring up a list of various "Security" modes. Click on "WPA Personal" and type in a phrase or password that you will remember later. Make it something that other people will not easily discover. This is key in helping to secure a wireless network on Linksys. Now hit the save settings button at the bottom of the page.
5. In your device network list, browse to settings are which lists network area information. Find the network in the list that you originally created. It should be easy to recognize as the name you previously setup. Now it may automatically detect if your network uses WPA mode and ask you for the password. Type in the phrase or password you have created. Your device should not be securely connected to the wireless network.
6. You will need to repeat this last process with each computer you would like connected to your network. Some older devices may not support WPA. In this case you may need to select WEP from your router’s Security mode list. The process is the same, for applying the settings to your devices. However WEP mode is not as secure as WPA and should be avoided if possible.
