How To Sell A Motorcycle On Craigslist

Every motorcycle owner should know how to sell a motorcycle on Craigslist.  This is especially true if you plan on selling your motorcycle at some time in the near future.  Craigslist is one of the many popular online sites which specializes in offering a venue in selling items of value to local interested parties.  Before placing your ad and making the sell, there are a few steps that should be taken to make the process easy and simple. 

  1. Determine your motorcycle’s value.  Check out the current values of the motorcycle based on the make, model and age.  There are various sources to use both online and in local publications for research.  Set your price as to what you would desire to sell it for, but be sure to also determine the minimum amount you will take. 
  2. Choose the best city location in Craigslist to place your ad.  Research and look for other motorcycles for sale in all nearby cities that are available on Craigslist.  You may see several in one city, but few in another city.  Determine the best city according to competition and distance.  In some cases, you may want to place an ad in all nearby cities to get the best possible offer.  Be aware that selling on Craigslist works best when the transaction is made local interested parties so you may not want to place any ads too far away from your home.
  3. Make sure your documents are in order.  You will need to make sure that the title to your motorcycle is free and clear before you sell it on Craigslist.  That means that any liens placed against it should be taken care of or disclosed at the time of the sell.  Make sure that tag is paid for and that any required safety or emissions tests are done and completed.  When disclosing the condition of the motorcycle, all issues if any should be discussed up front.
  4. Post an eye-catching and enticing ad.  Write your ad in a manner that is being honest yet enticing for a potential customer.  Give all the required details about your motorcycle including color, condition, any mechanical or body issues and age.  Many find including a photo of your motorcycle within your ad increases views.  Be ready to sell the motorcycle at anytime once the ad is placed.  Once a price is agreed on and the sale is made, transfer the title over to the selling party and give any final notes
