To be able to shoot from long range, take some time to learn and practice how to shoot a 3 pointer in basketball.  The 3 pointer is a valuable ability that allows the defense to be stretched.  Learning how to shoot the 3 pointer well will allow you to become a better shooter and be a threat from deep.

  1. Develop power from the legs.  Especially for long distance shots like the 3 pointer, you need a good source of power, which is found in the legs in the jump shot.  Make sure you use your legs for generating power in the jump shot.
  2. Use a high arc on your shot.  A high arc improves the chance of the ball entering the basket, as it will have a better angle.  Make sure your jump shot has a high arc to give you this advantage from the 3 point line.
  3. Follow through.  Part of having the correct power and backspin on your 3 point shot results from whether you follow through in your shooting motion.  Consistently follow through on your shot by following through the ball as it leaves your hands.
  4. Practice correct shooting form and power.  You will successfully be able to shoot the 3 pointer if you practice.  Make sure you are generating enough power with your motion and that you are utilizing the basic mechanics of the jump shot.  Have someone there to analyze your form, which can help pinpoint weaknesses.  Drill the proper form and mechanics by practicing, so that it becomes more natural.
