Wondering how to shrink polyester jackets? Shrinking polyester is not impossible to do although polyester is a fabric that tends not to shrink. The key to shrinking anything garment heat.
What you need to shrink a polyester garment:
- Hot water
- Sink or basin
- Steam iron
- Soak the jacket in hot water. Keep in mind that the hotter the water is, the more the fabric will shrink. Fill a sink or basin with hot water. If you boil the water, you will be able to get maximum shrinkage. Submerge the jacket in the hot water and let it soak for a good hour.
- Dry the jacket with heat from the sun. Again, heat is the key ingredient. Because a jacket has a zipper, you should never dry it in the dryer. Hang the polyester jacket on a hanger and put it in the sun to dry.
- Dry the jacket with a steam iron. If you use a steam iron, this will give you maximum results to getting polyester to shrink. There are two ways to steam iron a jacket. One is by using the ironing board and the other way is to steam the jacket while it is hanging. While the garment is still wet, choose your method of steam ironing and take precaution not to burn yourself while drying your jacket. Once dry, you will have successfully shrunk the polyester jacket.
