How To Shrink Polyester Underwear

Learning how to shrink polyester underwear is not hard. All that you need to do is use your washer and dryer, but you must make sure that you want your underwear to shrink. Heat, which may be applied to the clothing in the wash, is usually very good at shrinking this material, and tight underwear is rarely comfortable, so be sure that yours is significantly baggy before you begin. The following is advice on how to shrink polyester underwear.

What you Need:

  • Polyester underwear
  • Washing machine
  • Dryer
  • Detergent
  1. Place your underwear in the washing machine. Add some detergent if it is dirty, and then turn the wash on, using the highest heat cycle. Let the underwear run through the wash entirely. Then, when it has finished spinning, place it in the dryer.
  2. Turn the dryer on to the highest heat setting. Although heat is good, you do not want to burn the polyester underwear, so only run the dryer for as long as it takes to let the underwear dry. Putting it on for 70 minutes if all that you are drying is the one pair can damage your underwear. Try setting it for 20 to 30 minutes, and check on it late in the cycle, to make sure that it is not drying on high heat after it has already lost all of its moisture.
  3. Once your polyester underwear has dried completely, let it cool, and try it on. If it fits, great. However, if it still needs extra shrinking, repeat the above two steps. If a couple more runs through the washing machine and dryer fail to shrink it adequately, you may need to purchase a smaller pair to begin with, as heat is very good at shrinking polyester as much as the material can safely be shrunk. To maintain the size and elasticity of polyester underwear, use colder water and less heat for future wash cycles.

Learning how to shrink polyester underwear is easy. All that you need to do is run it through the washer and dryer on high heat. If you want it to stay the same size, after you have made it shrink, simply use cold or warm, but not hot, water.
