How To Sing Higher

Learning how to sing higher is an ambitious and admirable thing for any individual to do. However, it can be taxing for someone that does not quite know where to start. In truth, learning how to sing higher can be as easy as following several key steps and guidelines.

  1. Realize your limitations. A singer has a maximum range of singing that he must acknowledge if he is going to be realistic in how high he can sing. For some people, a certain note may be the absolute highest possible note he can sing. Knowing your range is key to knowing how high you can go.
  2. Warm up your voice. Do some vocal exercises to stretch your vocal chords out a little. One thing most singers do is go progressively from low notes to high notes in a hum or a single sound until they are able to go a little higher than they were when they started. Sometimes it may take multiple sessions before you are able to sing much higher. Like anything else, singing requires a certain measure of practice in order to be better.
  3. Breathing is also important to singing higher. While singing, you should never breathe from your chest. Instead, breathing should be done through the diaphragm. Rather than the stomach sinking when you breathe, the stomach should expand. This is how you breathe from the diaphragm. This is known as “supporting” your voice.
  4. Another thing that is very important to note is strain on the voice. It is absolutely pivotal not to strain the vocal chords, as this can often lead to your voice to being completely shot and unable to sing even mild notes. When trying to sing high, it is imperative to take your time. Strain on the voice does the exact opposite of improving your range; it depletes a singer’s ability to sing any note correctly.

As long as no strain is put on the voice and a singer practices regularly, you can sing some amazingly high notes that you would never have dreamed of reaching. Singing higher is a fantastic way to better your own talents. Practice and determination are the only ingredients needed to make it a reality.
