Learning how to snowboard a quarter pipe requires a basic understanding for the sport and the ability to ollie well. A quarter pipe is a type of ramp which curves upward and may be used by boarders trying to perfect their aerial tricks. The following is some advice on how to snowboard a quarter pipe.

  1. Practice your snowboarding before attempting to learn how to snowboard a quarter pipe. Hit the slopes and push yourself, which will help you to gain experience and hone your boarding skills. Novice snowboarders cannot expect to ride a quarter pipe or use it for tricks efficiently, so it is important that you are not a novice when you try to board the pipe.
  2. Once you have confidence in your general snowboarding abilities, you may learn how to snowboard a quarter pipe. Just ride it at first. Snowboard up and down to get a feel for its shape, but do not attempt to manufacture any tricks. Practice weaving up and down on the pipe, going from bottom to top.
  3. Once you have gotten a feel for the pipe (this does not mean you have snowboarded it a few times, as it can take much longer that), you may begin to try to learn how to snowboard a quarter pipe to do tricks. Start by learning how to ollie off of the top of the pipe. Practice jumping off of the top and turning the board so that you land smoothly facing down the pipe. Once you have gotten this down, you may practice bigger rotations, such as 180 jumps and airs to fakies.

Learning how to snowboard a quarter pipe is all about practice and experience. Newbies are likely to have a miserable time trying to ride structures. Only those with adequate experience can utilize pipes to perform tricks.
