How To Snowboard Trees

In learning how to snowboard trees, there´s a few main ideas you have to keep in mind.

  1. Always wear a helmet. Regardless of where you ride, you should always use a helmet. But specially when riding between trees, your skull deserves some care. And helmets are not so uncomfortable at the end of the day. They keep your head warm and some carry good earphones.
  2. Start snowboarding in reasonably open spaces, and then try increasingly difficult terrain.
  3. Remember that snow conditions between trees are very unstable. Trees affect the daily freezing/melting process, and usually around them snow can form holes or caves where it´s easy getting caught.
  4. Always look at the space between trees, not at the trees. Even though the natural reaction is to look at the obstacle, try looking at the space, and you´ll notice that it´s easier finding open spaces.
  5. Snowboard in groups when going out of bounds. Being by self out there is fun, but also quite dangerous. Try to gather with some riders before going out of bounds, mostly if you are unfamiliar with the area.
  6. Get enough information before attempting an unfamiliar run. Talk to other skiers and riders about the line you will attempt. This may save you a bit of hiking.
  7. Don´t take off too late in the day. In the mountains, night comes down fast and cold. Taking off too late carries a great and unnecessary risk. In a general basis, one p.m. is a good deadline for out of bounds.
  8. Let someone now about your out of bounds snowboarding plans.  This way you will save the rescue time some valuable time in the event of an accident.
