How To Start Exercising
Learning how to start exercising is a good way to get healthier and feel better about yourself. Almost anyone can do some form of exercise, it just takes some experimentation to find out what exercise you like and what your physical limits are.
- Consult your doctor. Even young people in good health should check with their doctor before beginning to exercise. Once your doctor gives the all clear, you're ready to start.
- Wear the right clothes for exercising. This will depend on your personal preferences, the weather, and what type of exercise program you'll be starting. Supportive athletic shoes and layers of moisture wicking clothes are usually a good place to start when beginning to exercise.
- Try different exercises. There are lots of ways to start exercising, such a swimming, jogging, walking or work-out videos. Try them all to see what works best for you. Another option to consider is joining a gym, as this will expand your options. Many gyms also have personal trainers available to help you design a personalized exercise program.
- Start off slow when beginning to exercise. If you do too much, too fast, you run the risk of injuring yourself. You may also get discouraged and quit if you make your goals really high to start with.
- Enlist a friend, spouse or family member to begin exercising with. This will give you someone to keep you company and you can encourage each other in your work-out endeavors.
Starting to exercise can be very beneficial and enjoyable if you go about it the right way. Having a workout buddy and finding the right exercise for you can make all the difference in whether you stick with an exercise program.
