How To Start A Food Truck Business
Knowing how to start a food truck business may not seem like a lot of work, but in reality, there are a few important things you need to make sure you have. Starting a food truck business is a good alternative to the hassle and cost it takes to start a brick-and-mortar restaurant. A food truck is also much more flexible than a restaurant because it is portable and you can set your hours to be friendlier to your schedule.
Things you'll need to start a food truck business:
- A business plan
- A food truck
- A food handler's permit
- A business license
- Plan ahead. This basically means to create a business plan. This plan should include what you will need to start your food truck, how much it will cost and how you plan to pay it off. If you are planning on getting a loan, this is what you will be presenting to the banks, so make sure you have all the details!
- Modify your truck. Since you will be selling food out of a food truck, it will need some things that normal food trucks or vans don’t come with! This includes a side window to deal with customers, a food preparation area and places to store food. You will probably also want a cash register, although a locked box will do to start.
- Get your licenses! Every business needs a business license and your business needs to pass some inspections. You will also need the proper insurance to make sure you, your customers and your property are in good hands. Lastly, a food handler’s permit is required for any food-related business.
- Promote yourself. The key to the success of any business is good publicity. If no one knows you exist, how will you get any customers? Promote your food truck in any way you can, whether it be signs, flyers or simply word of mouth.
