How To Start A Martial Arts Training Program
Learning how to start a martial arts training program is important in becoming a better fighter. After all, you will need some structure if you hope to stay consistent and improve with your martial arts. Here are some steps and tips to get you on track to starting a martial arts training program.
- Take your formal martial arts training into account. You will need to consider which days you are training, if you are receiving instruction within the martial arts. You obviously don't want to over train; doing fitness-based workouts close to these days would be preferable, for example.
- Be aware of how much available time you have. Don't expect yourself to workout five days a week if you don't have it. Even if you only have one hour each week to spare, it can be put into good use, such as doing weight training and martial arts-based techniques at high intensity, mixing the three areas (martial arts, aerobic, and anaerobic exercise).
- Take advantage of any equipment you can use. This is where punching bags and other equipment comes into play. If you are studying martial arts you want to be able to switch things up on your own time. Practice combinations and up-tempo drills on a heavy bag, for instance.
- Stretch. In exercise and martial arts in particular, you want to continue improving your stretching ability. Include it on days when you're not working out to obtain these goals.
- Schedule all aspects in appropriate blocks of time. Include weight training, aerobics, and actual martial arts training in your schedule. You want to be well-rounded; give yourself time in each of these areas to grow as an all-around martial artist.
