How To Stop Eating At Night

Many people are interested in learning how to stop eating at night. Eating at night can prevent a good night's sleep, can be a contributing factor to weight gain and can be a bad habit that becomes hard to break.

  1. Write down what you eat at night. These are the items you may want to remove from the house. While it may not seem like an important step, you need to see what you are eating at night before figuring out a plan to prevent it from happening.
  2. Remove what you are eating at night from the kitchen or pantry. If you are used to eating ice cream every night after dinner, consider skipping that purchase at the grocery store until you have a better handle on eating at night.
  3. Eat a full dinner. Sometimes you may be eating at night because you aren't full from dinner. You body is used to getting the snack and so you have programmed yourself not to eat everything on your plate at dinner time.
  4. When you feel like snacking, do something to distract yourself. When the urge to eat at night comes, try to do something that has nothing to do with eating. Move to a different area of the house or apartment. Many times, people eat at night while watching TV. Turn the TV off and pick up a book or go for a quick walk outside. After a while, the craving will subside.
Consistency is the best way to ensure that you stop eating at night. Try to continue these new habits for a month. You may fail along the way, but don't give up. You are on your way to learning how to stop eating at night.
