How To Stop Gay Bullying

There are many things that people want to stop in today’s modern world, but loads of people want to know exactly how to stop gay bullying. Of course, you can always change your social networking status to support causes or you can wear a t-shirt to show your support, but it’s also going to take physical action and hard work to really stop gay bullying. If homosexuality is ever going to have a good connotation with nearly everyone, action needs to be taken now.

1. Provide resources for gay children, teens and adults. One of the first building blocks in preventing and stopping gay bullying is to provide resources to gay children and adults. Confidence is required to overcome and stop gay bullying, and it really makes a big difference. It’s also important to remember that gay bullying even goes on in adult situations, and this cannot be ignored. Seeking resources is imperative.
2. Begin public speaking. If you feel comfortable enough to do so, you can begin public speaking at events to get the word out about gay bullying. Maybe you can speak to groups of kids or groups of adults about the effects of gay bullying. If you decide to do this, bring visuals of those who have committed suicide due to the harassment and name-calling. It will really get your audience’s eyes open as well as their ears.
3. If you’re a teacher or if you know one, understand the importance of stepping in. It’s very common these days for gay slurs to go unnoticed by teachers, but these instructors are going to have to start keeping their eyes and ears open to this type of language. Saying things such as, “That’s so gay,” is becoming more and more unacceptable, and teachers need to understand and reinforce this.
4. Don’t stand by, encourage or laugh when gay bullying is taking place; take a stand! It’s simple. If you see someone bullying another person because of their sexuality, don’t stand for it for a second. Immediately when you notice bullying is going on, put the bully on the spot and attempt to put a stop to the harm then and there. A lot of times, bullies will back down immediately when someone confronts them.
5. If you’ve got children, continually explain the importance of respect and kindness to your children. It doesn’t take an expert to understand that today’s youth is out of control. The best thing you can do as a parent to make a difference in the fight against gay bullying is to embed the importance of kindness and respect into your children. Also, make it a point to talk to them about homosexuality. Explain exactly what it is and why it is absolutely not okay to bully someone because they are gay.
