  1. Before you stop it, you have to understand it. There is no better tool for combating social change than having formal training under your belt. Or in other words, if you really are serious about fighting LGBT discrimination, it wouldn't heart to take take up a few sociology classes at your local university.
  2. Pass on your knowledge. If you have young children growing up, engulf them in the LGBT awareness. Since socialization starts young, there is no better time to teach your child good social attitudes when they are still growing.
  3. Focus on change on larger change. While individual discrimination can be harmful and powerful, discrimination is maintained and perpetuated through larger societal macro systems. Although macro level change is slow, it is still needed to stop any form of oppression. Furthermore, this kind of change trickles down to the individual level.
  4. If you see it or hear it happening, stop it. There is no quicker way to put an end to LGBT discrimination by speaking out against it. So for instance, if you hear a person say the word "fag", have a word with them. Have them think critically about the social implications of this word. By doing so, you are creating awareness to put an end to LGBT discrimination.
  5. Be creative. Awareness on LGBT discrimination can be disseminated through various of creative venues. If you are a poet, transfer your feelings to the spoken word. If you are a film maker, create a film addressing issues in this community. If you are a painter, organize an exhibit that embraces the LGBT identity. If you are a teacher, have your students read literature on this topic. Whatever your profession, find ways to incorporate LGBT awareness into what you do. As awareness is the key ingredient for social acceptance, and acceptance is vital to putting an end to discrimination.
