Knowing how to stop on a snowboard is a vital part of the whole snowboarding experience. You want to learn how to stop without using other people or trees to halt your momentum. Before you learn how to stop on a snowboard you will need the following items.

  • Snow
  • Hill
  • Snowboard
  • Helmet

Once you have gathered these items it is time to learn how to stop on a snowboard.

  1. Get your balance. The first step in learning how to stop on a snowboard is getting ready. As you are riding with the nose of the snowboard going down the hill, make sure you have your knees bent so your center of gravity is low. This will help you to keep your balance as you learn.
  2. Rotate your shoulders up the hill. The next step in learning how to stop on a snowboard is rotating your shoulders to face up the hill. If you're riding goofy, then have your right shoulder turn to face up the hill. If your are riding normal have your left shoulder turn to face up the hill. As you do this, put your weight toward your heels. Your snowboard should turn to become perpendicular to the hill.
  3. Keep your snowboard perpendicular to the hill. Once your snowboard is perpendicular to the hill, stop rotating. Just sit back on your heels and try not fall on your butt. Your snowboard will slow down and stop. You now know how to stop on a snowboard.
