Learning how to stretch legs can help you loosen up before you workout. You can also help to prevent an injury when you stretch your legs before you train. Some leg stretches require a partner, while others you can perform on your own.

Things you may need to stretch your legs:

  • Stretching partner
  1. To stretch your hamstrings, stand up straight and cross your feet at the ankles. Slowly bend over and try to touch your toes. Hold the stretch for a second and then stand back up. Repeat this movement 10 times to give your hamstrings a thorough stretch.
  2. You can also stretch your hamstrings with a partner. Ask your stretching partner to bend down and then put one of your legs on their shoulder. Have them slowly stand up until your leg begins to tighten. Lean forward and try to touch your toes. Hold the position for a count of one then repeat the stretch with the other leg. When you stretch your legs with a partner make sure you also help them to loosen up.
  3. To stretch the inner legs sit on the ground. Pull your legs in so the bottoms of your feet touch. Hold each ankle and apply pressure to your inner legs with your forearms. Stay in this position for a count of one and then relax. Repeat the stretch 10 times.
  4. To stretch your quadriceps, stand on one leg and bend your other leg at the knee. Reach down and hold the ankle on your bent leg, then slowly pull your leg back. Stretch this leg a few times and then repeat the movement with the other leg.
