How To Strip Snowboard Wax
Knowing how to strip snowboard wax is a necessary and simple operation, allowing you to reapply a fresh and even coat of wax to the base. Wax is an important component to the over all feel and ride a snowboard will give. Removing the wax allows the reapplication of a fresh coat to maintain a smooth and fast ride, and is a basic maintenance technique that every snowboarder should know how to do.
You will need:
- Snowboard
- Base cleaner
- Towel
- Locate a well-ventilated area. Place the snowboard with the base up (part of the snowboard that contacts the snow). Secure the snowboard in place or block it so it does not move.
- Apply the base cleaner to the towel. Work from nose to tail or tail to nose applying the base cleaner. The base cleaner should go on wet and you should apply in a tight circular motion.
- While applying the base cleaner make sure you keep your towel damp, not wet. Continue the tight circular motion until you have applied base cleanse to the entire base. The base of the snowboard should look dull. If there are any spot that still holds a sheen, reapply the base cleaner.
Tip: Some places recommend using kerosene as a cheaper solution. Bad idea—kerosene is a harsh and extremely flammable liquid. Spend the extra dollar or two and pick up some actual base cleaner.
That's it. The wax is off and the snowboard is ready for waxing.
