Want to learn how to style short, curly hair? As you probably already know, curly hair often has a mind of its own. Many elements come into play when styling short, curly hair. The weather is a huge factor when trying to tame unruly locks. One key aspect to styling short, curly hair is to keep the curls under control. The most important thing to keep in mind is to work with your curls, not against them.

Things you'll need:

  • Styling gel
  • Mousse
  • Vent brush
  • Hairspray
  • Shampoo and conditioner designed for curly hair
  1. Wash and dry. Be sure to use a shampoo and conditioner that are formulated for curly hair. Curly hair tends to be more course than straight hair and has different needs. Air drying is recommended, but if you need to dry curly hair with a blow dryer, be sure to style as you dry. To smooth down the unruly curls, you will want to run the blow dryer down the shaft of the hair from the root to the ends on a medium to low heat.
  2. Vent brush. A vent brush is essential when styling short, curly hair. A regular bristle brush can cause frizziness and a rough texture.
  3. Styling agents. There are many styling agents on the market today for curly hair. Finding the best products is a process of trial and error. What works for one person may not work for someone else. In place of a traditional rinse-out conditioner you may want to try a leave-in conditioner. It can add extra softness and control to the hair. Next, you will want to use a mousse or a hair gel. Gel will give a heavier control, but can also give hair a crunchy, wet look. A mousse is better for softer curls, but will provide less control. Hairspray should be used as a finishing touch to hold hair into place.
