Learning how to survive a real martial arts fight is no small matter.  Such an event in the street can be extremely dangerous and should be avoided at all costs.  Here are some tips to learn how to survive a real martial arts fight.

  1. Be aware of an exit opportunity.  If you can run away to end a fight, do it.  A real martial arts fight in the street can end in serious injuries, or even death.  Avoiding the fight by leaving is the best way to handle and survive a martial arts fight.  If that is not an option, look to slow down your opponent until you can leave the scene.
  2. Use what you know.  If you have any training, now is the time to use it.  Regardless of your training, do what it takes to stun your opponent.  Areas like the groin, Adam's Apple, and others should be targeted to end the fight quickly and give you time to leave.
  3. Use weapons if needed to defend yourself.  If weapons are around, use them.  This is also relevant if you carry mace or some other kind of handheld weapon.
  4. Be smart.  This point may seem obvious, but it becomes overshadowed by emotions and egos in a real martial arts fight.  Do what it takes to leave the fight and don't get involved in anything more than is necessary.  More often than not, you can avoid, or at least end, the fight early.  Get out of there to avoid something serious from occurring.
