Learning how to sync your iPod to a new computer will allow you to update your library.  Getting all of your pictures, videos, movies, and other media on your new computer is a step that must be taken to sync your iPod to a new computer. You can't transfer media on your iPod to the new computer directly.  However, this is not too difficult.  Follow these steps to sync your iPod to your new computer.

In order to sync your iPod to a new computer, you will need:

  • iPod (including cable)
  • Computer
  • Media library (i.e. on an external hard drive)
  1. Transfer your media library to new computer (if applicable).  If you do not have your media library on the new computer, you will need to transfer it there.  Copy or move your music and other media (pictures, videos, etc.) to an external hard drive or other measure (such as Internet storage).  Then, you will need to move in onto your new computer.  From there, you can load it into iTunes on the new computer, so everything is up-to-date.
  2. Plug in your iPod to check its settings within iTunes.  You will need to connect your iPod and check settings of your device in iTunes.  As this is your new computer, you might need to tweak your options, such as which music to include on the device (if you can't fit it all!).
  3. Sync your iPod to the new computer.  Once your media is loaded on the computer, inserted into iTunes, and the settings are to your preferences for the iPod, you can sync it.  It will sync automatically if you plug it in, or you can select this within iTunes when your iPod is connected to the new computer.
