How To Take Apart An Xbox

You may need to learn how to take apart an Xbox console to clean it, or to repair parts. Whatever your reason is taking apart and Xbox console is somewhat difficult because you run the risk of damaging the console. You also need to remember where everything goes and be confident that you can put the console back together once you have taken it apart. Here are a few steps that will guide you on how to take apart an Xbox system.

To take apart an Xbox, you will need:

  • screwdriver
  • Xbox case opening tool
  1. Turn off your console and disconnect and plugs that may be connected to it. Find the hard drive on the top of the console and press down on it then slide it off. Set your hard drive tot he side so that it is not confused with other parts that you will soon remove from your Xbox.
  2. Turn your Xbox over so that you can remove the faceplate. Make sure that the bottom is now facing upwards and press the release button for your faceplate. Pull the faceplate off and put the Xbox case opening tool in the bottom first hole. Continue to push in until you feel the clips that hold the bottom together release. Do this for all of the holes until the bottom part comes off.
  3. Remove the top piece using the case opening tool as well. Place the tool into all of the holes and push into each hole until the top part comes off.
  4. Use your screwdriver to remove the screws that hold together the chassis. You can do this by placing the console on its side and removing the six screws. Once you have done this you will be able to now see inside your Xbox.
