  1. Put your cleats on. The first step in learning how to tape your cleats for football is putting on your cleats. Make sure they are tied as tight as you want them before you start taping. You must have the cleats on before you start taping because you will be taping your ankle as well as your cleats.
  2. Start with the tape on your laces. The first step in the taping process is taping from the laces to under the arch of your cleat. You want the tape to start at your laces, go under the arch of your cleat and come up to the laces on the other side. Do not tear the tape after this step.
  3. Wrap the tape around your ankle. Still moving up from around the arch, bring the tape in front of your ankle and wrap it around. The tape should be secure around your Achilles tendon. Once the tape is around your ankle bring it back down to the side of the laces where you first started taping. You have now completed one figure eight with the tape.
  4. Complete two more figure eights. Repeat steps two and three, but move the tape on each figure eight so it covers more of your foot, do not simply tape the same small area three times.

Start from the inside of your foot where you have already taped and bring a strip around the back of your heel to the outside of your foot. This is called a horseshoe strip. 6. Finish with three more figure eights. Once you have completed the horseshoe strips, the last step in learning how to tape your cleats for football is to wrap things up with three more figure eights from steps two and three. These will secure your horseshoe strips and make the tape job look better. Now you know all there is to know about how to tape your cleats for football.
