Don't let plantar fasciitis ruin your run; learn about how to tape your foot for plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis is a painful and often chronic inflammatory condition of the foot. If you have plantar fasciitis, you feel most of your pain throughout the heel of your foot where your plantar fascia tendon is located. The goal of taping your foot for plantar fasciitis is to provide support to your plantar fascia tendon.

In order to learn about how to tape your foot for plantar fasciitis, you will need:

  • sports tape
  • pre-tape spray
  • thin running socks
  • 15 minutes
  1. Cut the sports tape into pieces. In order to properly tape your plantar fasciitis, you should cut the sports tape rather than try to tape it with one long piece. Cut three or four one inch strips. Cut five or six two inch strips. You won't need to use all of these strips. There are extras in case you mess up.
  2. Spray your foot. Spray the pre-tape spray liberally over your foot and ankle. Make sure you cover the areas of your foot that you intend to tape. Don't spray your foot so much that it is soaking wet either. The best position for spraying and taping your foot if to have your foot on a flat surface, like a table.
  3. Apply the longer pieces to the base of your foot. Apply one long piece of tape diagonally from the base of your foot to the base of your big toe. Take another piece of tape and do the same thing, but go the opposite way so the tape makes a crisscross. Make sure there aren't any wrinkles in the tape.
  4. Apply the smaller pieces to the bottom of your foot. The smaller pieces should be applied to the bottom of your foot, with the first piece joining the ends of the crisscross at the base of your foot. Continue applying tape until the bottom of your midfoot is covered. Your heel and forefoot should be uncovered. Again, make sure there are no wrinkles in the tape.
