  1. Determine if your car is running hot. If your car is running hot or overheating, then the water pump could be one of many problems in your cooling system. If your water pump is leaking in any way, then your engine will run hot. This is one of the issues that comes with a leaking water pump. Please note that it is best not to drive your car in this state. Most car's radiators are made of aluminum, and overheating could damage the radiator.

If water is leaking from the right side of your engine, almost behind your front right tire, then more than likely your water pump is leaking. Please note that most cars' water pumps are located on the right side of the engine.   4. Determine whether you have a faulty air conditioner. The air conditioner is one of the main ways to tell if there is an issue with your water pump. If your car is not blowing cool air when the setting is on cool, then that means the coolant or water is not circulating the way it should be in your car's coolant system. A leaking water pump would be a factor to consider.
