How To Tell If Dog Is Pregnant
Do you want to know how to tell if dog is pregnant? Dogs are only pregnant for about two months, so all of her symptoms will be compressed into a short time. If you suspect your dog may be pregnant, there are some signs to look out for.
- Soon after conception, your dog may not be as playful, she may just want to be left alone. This is due to the rapid hormonal changes she is going through. She may initially also lose interest in food, although this is temporary. Later in pregnancy, her appetite will likely increase quite a bit.
- Nipple size will increase and become more prominent in pregnant dogs. This usually happens fairly early on in pregnancy. Late in pregnancy, a small amount of milk may also leak from the dog’s nipples in anticipation of the birth.
- A late pregnancy sign in dogs is a dramatic increase in the size of the stomach of the dog. You may also be able to feel the puppies moving around if you put your hand on her stomach late in pregnancy. Pregnant dogs often put on quite a bit of weight toward the end of pregnancy. If you haven’t done so already, this is a good time to set up a comfortable area for your dog to give birth when the time comes.
If you suspect your dog is pregnant, keep an eye out for the signs listed above. You can also take the dog to her vet. The vet will be able to confirm the pregnancy with an ultrasound, if desired.
