One of the most difficult things you may ever have to do is to decide how to tell a woman that you don’t want to marry her. If your girlfriend has an idea that you do not want marriage, things may go a little smoother. If she does not, when you tell a woman that you don’t want to marry her try to do it in a way that does not leave her feeling completely devastated.

1. Choose the time and place to tell a woman that you don’t want to marry her. Your choices can have a major impact on how your girlfriend reacts. Do not tell her the bad news in a crowded restaurant, or when you are among mutual friends. You also do not want to tell her by email, text or in writing. That is an insult and is too impersonal. You want to be alone in a quiet setting when you tell a woman that you don’t want to marry her, in case things happen to get out of hand.
2. Buy some flowers for your girlfriend. When you are going to tell a woman that you don’t want to marry her, she may end up feeling worthless and betrayed. Giving her some flowers may not make her feel much better, but it is a classy move. She can always toss the flowers in the trash, which may even make her feel a little better.
3. Hope for the best, but expect the worst. This old saying applies in a breakup situation, so if you and your girlfriend do decide to part ways, do not provoke her or respond to her insults. When you tell a woman that you don’t want to marry her and she gets out of control, be the bigger person and just walk away to give her some space.
4. If you breakup, send your girlfriend a nice card. She may burn it, but it is still a classy gesture. Just apologize briefly in the card, you do not need to be overly wordy. More than likely your now ex-girlfriend will tell her friends that you sent her a card. If some of the friends are mutual, they should react positively to your gesture.
