Learning how to throw the ball faster in baseball is essential for anyone wanting to play the game better.  You will need to learn how to do this, as every position requires some defensive abilities.  Practice is key, yet there are fundamentals regarding your mechanics that you must do in order to throw the ball faster in baseball.

  1. Field the ball quickly.  Part of the situation is being able to make the quick transition from the glove to your hand.  Hence, if you are slow to do this, you will put much more pressure on yourself to throw the ball, which can result in a bad throw.  Use your throwing hand behind the glove if you have time.  If it is a grounder or some other quick defensive play, you should have your throwing hand very close and ready.
  2. Transition the ball to your hand quickly.  Practice quickly getting the ball out of your glove; moving your throwing hand to the glove is faster than the other way around, as you would still take time to cock your arm even if your glove brought the ball to your throwing hand.
  3. Use fast throwing arm mechanics.  Throwing the ball faster isn't about cocking your arm as far back as possible.  You will lose time.  Take advantage of strength in your forearm and wrist.  Practice shortening the cocking motion in order to lessen the time the ball is in your hand.
  4. Set your feet.  Depending on the length of your throw, you will need to position your feet accordingly.  However, getting your feet in position should occur simultaneously to your arm mechanics.

Practice makes perfect.  And remember, you need to make these fundamentals a habit, which is important in sports.  Once these mechanics are quickly into one motion, you will be able to deliver the baseball much faster than before.
