You love the game of football and want to know how to throw a football spiral. Learning how to throw a football spiral takes lots of practice, and even some NFL quarterbacks struggle to do this. A good spiral on a football is all about style and technique. Throwing a sloppy pass or not throwing the football right can cost you the game. When you throw a good football spiral it will help you to get the football where you want it to go. Here are some steps to help you to learn how to throw a football spiral.

  1. Get the right grip of the football. Use the seams as they will give you a better grip on the ball. Place the football in your hand so that a couple of your fingers are on the seams, comfortably in the slots. Each finger does not need to be touching the seam, generally just your ring finger and middle finger. Place your fingers where you are most comfortable holding the football.
  2. Get into position. Stand with your feet and your body perpendicular to wherever your target is. Have your eyes fixed on where you want the ball to go. Then, bring your elbow up to shoulder height and as you throw the football spiral towards your target keep your elbow at shoulder height.
  3. Use the right motion. You generate a football spiral by the downward force your hand has on the ball when your release it. To get this correct throw make sure your elbow is kept underneath the ball at all times. As you begin to move your arm forward to throw the ball, your hand and the ball should go directly past your ear, and no further as you get ready to release a football spiral. As your release the ball, flick your wrist and let your middle and pointer finger roll off of the ball. This generates that motion that creates a football spiral.
  4. Follow through the throw. As your release the ball follow through the entire throw with your hand and your arm as you stay directly towards your target. Fully extend your arm in front of your body towards the target. Cross your arm in front of your chest and let it finish falling near your opposite hip. Let your arm fall naturally to the side of your body. When the foot ball is fully released, your fingers should end up pointing down towards the ground.
