How To Throw Parties For Homosexual Couples

Knowing how to throw parties for homosexual couples is not much different than throwing a party for heterosexual couples. The most important part of any party is having fun and honoring the people you’re throwing the party for. In this case, your focus should be on honoring the homosexual couple.

  1. Make the guest list. There are people you might hesitate to invite, such as the parents of the homosexual couple, especially if their parents do not support their lifestyle. Just ask yourself if your homosexual friends would look back and regret if their parents weren’t there to share their special day. If you have doubts, run the guest list by the couple, assuming it’s not a surprise party.
  2. Fit the party plans with the homosexual couple’s personalities. When planning activities, venues and entertainment, always keep the couple you’re throwing the party for in mind. Homosexual couples don’t conform to any norms. They can be as conservative and low key or as wild and outgoing as any other couple. Before making party plans, ask yourself if the homosexual couple will enjoy it.
  3. Get creative with gifts. It can sometimes be hard to know what gifts to bring to a party for homosexual couples, such as an anniversary party or wedding reception. Like any other couple, your homosexual friends might enjoy more traditional gifts, such as household items, but there are many other gift options. You can pull money together to send them on a trip, donate to a charity in their honor or give them a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant.
  4. Don’t forget the partner. If you’re only friends with half of the couple, keep your friend’s partner in mind as you plan the party. If you don’t know the partner that well, talk with friends and family members as you plan the party to make sure both halves of the couple enjoy their party.
