How To Throw Pitches
Learning how to throw pitches in baseball can allow you to play better as a pitcher. Whether you want to play competitively on a team, or just want to be able to pitch to your friends in a casual game, you will want to learn how to throw pitches properly. Take the following steps into account to learn how to throw pitches.
- Learn the footwork of pitching. Footwork is crucial when learning how to throw pitches. Begin with your feet next to each other on the mound. With your non-dominant foot, you will begin the pitching motion by taking a small step back. Turn to favor your dominant side and then push off the mound powerfully to gain power for the pitch. When this stride occurs, you will release the ball shortly thereafter.
- Learn pitching mechanics with respect to your hands. As you begin the pitching motion, you can keep the ball close to your body. You can bring your arms up and back as you are ready to step forward off the mound with your dominant foot. Once you bring your pitching arm back, you will immediately move your arm forward to pitch the ball as you explode off of the mound with your feet.
- Learn the grips for throwing specific pitches. The grip of the baseball is largely dependent on what pitch you want to throw. Start with the fastball to learn the basic grip and to get used to the mechanics. You will be able to learn how to throw more pitches once you get the hang of your mechanics.
