How To Tie A Fishing Knot
By keeping some basic guidelines in mind, you can learn how to tie a fishing knot. Properly tying a fishing knot will allow you to secure your hook, lure, or jig. Try it out today!
- Start the fishing knot by threading the fishing line through the eye of the lure or hook. Ideally, the line should come at least three or four inches through the lure or hook for best results. Using your thumb and forefinger, carefully fold the excess line back over onto itself.
- Use your opposite hand to hold the hook securely. Twist the hook between eight to twelve times. If you have line that is relatively light, you will need to twist it twelve times—but if your line is pretty thick, you can get by with twisting it only eight times.
- Continue holding the hook. Use one hand to take the free end of the line and loop it back through the first loop that was created when you first twisted the line. Typically, this loop should be right next to the hook.
-
Once again, take the free end of the line, and string it through the loop created in step number three. Finally, pull the free end of the line tightly. Pinch the line and slide the fishing knot towards the hook. The fishing knot should end up pressed firmly against the hook. Pull on it a few times to test the durability of the fishing knot, and then carefully use a scissors or nail clippers to remove all excess line except for one quarter of an inch.
