Steps

  1. Stretch out really well. Take the mountain bike for a few leisure laps to warm up. Strap on your gear, helmet at a minimum but gloves are recommended as well. Head to your favorite flatland dirt track and prepare for your training.
  2. Work win sprints on your mountain bake. Fifty yards sprints back and forth along the same path. Peddle hard and fast from start through the fifty yard mark. Do three sets riding up and back twice in both directions.
  3. Next, head up to a mountain trail. I hope that the two are close to each other, if not rethink your location. Work the inclines with burst, hard peddling with little stopping. Find debris to jump over at full speed.
  4. Using these areas to work cardio and bike management will support your racing. Terrain maneuvering without pressure of competition will grow your awareness and confidence. Make this a part of your normal training routine.
