How To Travel Cheap Through The U.S.

The question of how to travel cheap though the U.S. is an important one, especially if like many Americans, you are traveling in order to find employment. But traveling cheap through the U.S. is not as hard as, say, traveling cheap through the Milky Way galaxy, or the Negative Zone.

  1. Plan Ahead. This might go without saying, but traveling cheap through the U.S. becomes a lot easier if you take the time to plan ahead. The Internet is an invaluable resource in this arena. For instance, you could search for "how to travel cheap through the U.S." before embarking. Check! You can also decide on actual destinations - this will save gas because you won't be looping around quite as much.
  2. Pack Food. Food is one of the biggest traveling expenses there is, partly because it's easy to forget just how much food costs. So be smart and pack stuff that can keep in the car, like snack mix, peanut butter, or a domestic animal that you will later kill, cook, and eat. Traveling cheap through the U.S. isn't about winning a popularity contest, after all.
  3. Waffle House. You will eventually run out of food, though. And when you do, stop at Waffle House as much as possible, as seen in the hit film "Due Date" starring Robert Downey, Jr.!
  4. Haggle Down. It may not be customary in America, but haggling down hotel proprietors is a great way to travel cheap through the U.S. There might be some tension afterward, but this is easily broken: just make a joking reference to William Shatner. You just made a new friend!
  5. Camp Out. Hotels are still expensive though, so it might be a good idea to go camping instead a couple nights. Bring a video camera and be the next person on Discovery Channel whose first name is something like "Bear."
