Learn how to travel Ireland for the best vacation of your life. Ireland is a country of deep history and culture, waiting to be explored. Whether you are looking for new experiences, an in-depth historical education or just a good time, Ireland won't let you down. Start planning your Ireland adventures today with these tips:

  1. Reserve your flight. There are only a few major airports in Ireland. You will most likely fly into Dublin or Shannon. Spend an afternoon familiarizing yourself with the country to determine which flight will work best for you. Smaller airports exist, but securing transportation from them can be a challenge.
  2. Secure your passport in advance. Receiving a new U.S. passport can take several weeks, so don't leave this until the last minute. Make copies of your passport to keep in various places while you travel Ireland. Try to keep your passport with you at all times while on foreign ground; it is one of the most important things you will bring.
  3. Understand the money. Ireland functions with two different currencies, depending on what part of the country you are staying in. If you are traveling Northern Ireland, you need to convert your dollars to Pound Sterlings. Euros are used in the Republic of Ireland.
  4. Purchase electrical converters. If you plan to plug anything in while you travel Ireland, such as a cell phone, computer or electric shaver, you will need the proper conversion tools. Ireland uses a 230v, 50hz electrical supply.
  5. Before renting a car, remember that the Irish drive on the left side of the road instead of the right. Don't drive if you are uncomfortable with this switch. The roads will also be narrow, and the weather is often foggy. If you do choose to drive while you travel Ireland, be careful to keep your gas tank adequately filled. Many Irish gas stations close early in the evening and on Sundays.
