- Clean the flea bite with an antiseptic cleanser. As soon as you realize you have flea bites, you should clean the entire area thoroughly with an antiseptic cleanser that will not only disinfect the bite of germs but will also help stop the itching. When you rinse off the cleanser, try to use colder water seeing as how warm water might make the bites itch worse.
- Try applying ice packs. Anything cold helps the itchiness of flea bites. The cold ice pack will numb the surrounding area of the skin of the bite, which will ultimately stop the itching. Ice packs can also help flea bites to stop swelling and help reduce redness.
- Never scratch, always rub. If your flea bite happens to itch rapidly, try to rub instead scratch with finger nails or any other object that might tear the skin cells. By damaging the skin where the bite might itch, you may be cause scarring or worse, it may become infected.
- Use topical treatments until the flea bite goes away. There isn't really any magic potion to may flea bites go away, they normally disappear within 2 to 3 days on their own. While you're waiting for your flea bite to go away, you can use topical treatments such as calamine lotion or hydrocortisone creams to relieve the itching and the burning of your flea bites.
