Figuring out how to treat laryngitis is slightly tricky. The reason treating laryngitis is not a cut and dry activity is because it can be caused by a number of outside influences. The most common form of laryngitis is caused by a virus. But, other forms of laryngitis can pop up from allergies, certain bacteria, throat irritation from a common cold, the flu, and a whole host of other outside irritations. Laryngitis also likes to hang out in your system with it's buddy, the upper respiratory infection. When this is the case, it takes even more steps to get rid of the laryngitis. Well, heres the best way to treat laryngitis.

  1. Rest. The best way to get rid of laryngitis is to simply let your vocal cords rest. Laryngitis is basically the inflammation of the vocal cords. The best way to get rid of the inflammation is just not to use them. Especially in cases when your laryngitis pops up because of the common cold or flu. There's nothing you can really do but rest. So, sit back, drink lots of fluids, and shut up.
  2. Bacterial Infections. These infections can be rather bothersome. If your laryngitis is caused by a bacterial infection, you may need to be put on some sort of antibiotic. Doctors will have to prescribe the antibiotics in cases like these. Eventually, a bacterial infection can even run its course, But, they're not something to play with. In a worse case scenario, they can spread and cause real problems. So, you're better off getting a doc to get you some antibiotics.
  3. If a virus is the cause. No surprise here. You just have to let it run its course. Rest, rest, and more rest. Keep drinking fluids to help flush out your system and play the waiting game.
