If you have so much to say that you need to share despite your location, you need to know how to Twitter on your phone. Whether you use Twitter SMS to update via text message or if you download one of the many Twitter applications available, tweeting from your phone is simple.

To Twitter on your phone, you will need:

  • A Twitter account
  • A cell phone with text messaging or internet access

To text your tweets:

  1. Text the word “Start” to 40404 if you live in the United States. Visit Twitter.com to find out other country codes. You will receive a response text from Twitter.
  2. Reply with your username. Twitter will respond again requesting your password. Reply carefully, as Twitter passwords are case sensitive. Twitter will respond again, asking you if you want to use Twitter on your cell phone.  Type “OK” and reply. Your phone will now be authorized to tweet to your account.
  3. Send a text to 40404 with your update. Remember, your update must be 140 characters or less. Your Twitter account profile will reflect these tweets.

To use a Twitter application:

  1. Determine which applications work for your cell phone. For example, PocketTweets was configured for the iPhone or iPod Touch. Uber Twitter, on the other hand, was developed for the BlackBerry.
  2. Download the application using your cell phone’s browser. Ensure you have enough free space on your mobile device to support the download.
  3. Launch the application. Enter your tweet and select “Update.” The application will update your Twitter profile just as if you were updating from your computer.
