Knowing how to unfreeze an iPod Nano is essential when trying to keep the soundtrack to life on full blast. Being able to drown out lovers’ spats on public transportation or the "clangings and bangings" of the cityscape with a personal "Top Ten" musical playlist might be the difference between sanity and a television police drama unraveling, with you as the star of their 3-hour season finale. Learning how to unfreeze an iPod Nano is fairly easy, assuming that you're able to handle any piece of technology smaller than a football.

To unfreeze an iPod Nano:

  1. Simply press and hold the center (or “enter”/”select”) button while simultaneously pressing and holding the “menu” button on the device. This should unfreeze an iPod Nano screen and reset it. Hold these two buttons simultaneously anywhere between five and ten seconds.
  2. Wait for the screen to flash blank, the "Apple" logo should then appear and the device will go through its normal booting up process.
  3. Once the iPod Nano is unfrozen, be sure to go through songs and playlists to make sure nothing was deleted or lost, just as a precaution.

Holding these two buttons down for ten seconds before calling an "Apple" store, where you will likely be sent to an automated service, then be forced to wait on hold for someone to assist you, may avoid your having to waste ten or fifteen minutes just to have someone give these same instructions to unfreeze an iPod Nano. That time would be lost. Forever.  The method described above is a failsafe for "Apple" products, so you can use the same method for other "Apple" devices. Many problems with an iPod can be solved by resetting it. Anything beyond that warrants a trip to the Apple store to consult an “Apple Genius".

Don’t become the source material for a made-for-television movie starring former child actors from the 80s because of the frustration of having a frozen Nano. Being able to unfreeze an iPod Nano will get your life, and its necessary background music, back on track, keeping the world a safer place for all.
