How To Upgrade Memory In Dell Computers

Need to know how to upgrade memory in Dell computers?  This article will help you do just that.  It is quite simple to upgrade the memory.  All you need is extra RAM cards to upgrade the RAM memory in a Dell computer.  Before we begin make sure you have the right memory hardware.  With RAM memory you need to make sure it is the right compatible chip set.  If you are unsure you can look at the current RAM card to verify the numbers on it to make sure you don't install an incorrect RAM chip.

1.  Open the casing.  What you will first need to do is open up the case, and make sure the computer is powered off.  If using a laptop, unscrew the panel where the RAM slots are located.  Once you have done this, you will be able to see if you even have an open slot to add more memory.  In some cases, there are several slots open.  Remove the old RAM cards to make room for the new RAM cards.

2.  Installing RAM.  The next step is to install the RAM cards.  To avoid static electricity to the RAM chips, hold the chip by the sides and avoid touching the chips and gold pins.  Locate pin one on the RAM card.  It should have a little one just above the gold pin.  Then line up pin one on the RAM chip with pin one on the motherboard.  The motherboard should have pin one marked as well to help you locate it.

3.  Power up the computer.  After the RAM cards are installed close the case and power up the computer.  It should boot normally.  To verify that the RAM has increased, you can go to the my computer icon and right click it.  In the gray window, left click properties and a new system window will open up.  Under the RAM memory you will be able to see how much RAM you now have.
