How To Upholster A Sofa

Reupholstering a sofa is time consuming but with our guide on how to upholster a sofa it is something everyone with a little time can do. Before we get started you are going to need these materials:

  • Fabric
  • Sewing machine (Optional you can sew the fabric by hand it is just time consuming)
  • Staple or nail gun
  • Writing utensil
  • Scissors
  1. The first step to reupholstering your sofa is to take the old fabric off. If you see any parts of the couch you want to repair this is the time to repair them. Now that you have taken off the old fabric measure the couch from every angle.
  2. The second step is to head to fabric store and pick out some fabric. Once you are home you are going to need to trace the measurements onto the fabric. Use a pencil since it is easier to clean off the fabric when you are done.
  3. The third step in upholstering your sofa is to cut out the outline. Make sure you leave a little space for trimming. Now that you have one that place the fabric over the sofa and use a staple or nail gun to staple/nail down the fabric to the couch. Cut off any extra fabric or tuck it under the fabric when you are stapling/nailing the fabric down.
  4. The fourth step is optional if you any throw pillows you would like to upholster follow the same procedures above. There is one slight change instead of nailing the fabric you would sew the fabric together.

Congratulations you have finished upholstering your sofa.
