Need to know how to use Gmail Video? Gmail video is combined with Gmail's email and chat services. Integrated right into the chat feature, Gmail video chat is simple to use. Just like Gmail's email service, video chat is free and it's simple to invite people to join you in cyberspace. To get started, you will need an active Gmail account and a webcam. Typically, you can purchase an inexpensive webcam for your desktop and many laptops come with a webcam installed.

Supplies you will need:

  • An active Gmail account
  • A webcam
  1. Go to gmail.com/chat/video and click the "Install Voice and Video Chat" button. It only takes a few seconds to complete the installation. Restart your browser. The installation process is not complete until your restart your internet browser.
  2. Click the "Video & More" link at the bottom of the Gmail chat window. You can also hover your mouse over a friend in the chat box and click "Video & More." Click "Start Video Chat." Make sure the person is online and logged in to their Google account. A green light should appear next to their name in the chat window.
  3. Wait for the other party to respond to your request. The other party will hear ringing on their end. Once the other party accepts, begin chatting! You can "pop" the video window "out" of Gmail by clicking the "Pop-out" link in the corner of the video window.
