How To Use Gym Climbing Rope

By keeping some basic guidelines in mind, you can learn how to use a gym climbing rope. Be sure to get as much practice as possible in order to achieve optimal results.

  1. Start with high quality materials. Make sure that the rope is securely attached to the ceiling before attempting to climb it. If desired, you can put lightweight gloves on your hands, such as those used in football or baseball, in order to protect the skin on your hands from rope burn.
  2. Wrap both hands around the rope at a height that is above your head, as high as you can reach. Use the muscles in your arms and chest to lift your feet off the ground. Bring both feet together around the rope, trapping it in place.
  3. Straighten your legs, and reach your hands to a spot higher up on the rope. As you do this, bring your feet together on a spot higher up on the rope. Continue doing this until you have reached your desired height on the rope.
  4. Practice rope climbing as much as possible. As the old saying goes, "practice makes perfect," and this is definitely the case with rope climbing. In addition, you may want to consider doing weight lifting exercises to increase the muscle tone of your arms and chest. This will make rope climbing easier.
