Want to learn how to use wood water skis? If you've got a pair of wood water skis and you want to learn how to get up on them, you've come to the right place. Read on to find out how to use wood water skis.

What you need to use wood water skis:

  • water skis
  • water ski rope
  • boat to pull water skier
  • spotter for water skier
  • someone to drive boat
  1. Put on the skis. Place one wooden ski on each foot. Make sure the skis fit tightly on your feet because they will fly off if they do not fit you properly.
  2. Hold the rope. Hang onto the water ski rope and keep it in your hands in between your knees. This is the best location so you can pull yourself up out of the water once the boat takes off.
  3. Bend knees. Have your knees bent as you sit in the water. The wood water skis should be sticking up partially out of the water, about one foot. The skis should be approximately shoulder width apart as well. This is the best position for starting out with the water skis.
  4. Get up on skis. As the boat takes off, keep your crouched position. Push down slightly with your skis as the boat starts to move. The boat is supposed to pull you up out of the water. Hang onto the rope. As the boat moves forward, allow it to pull you up out of the water and into a standing position.

It will usually take several attempts in order to get up on the wood water skis. It's kind of like riding a bike - you need to get a hang of it and then it's easy after that. Many people believe getting up on water skis is the hardest part. Once you're up on skis, you just hang on to the rope and try to stay in the boat's wake. The spotter person tells the driver when you've fallen so they can turn back around to pick you up again. Once you become more experienced, you can try skier over the boat's wake. You may even want to move onto skiing with just one ski.
