How To Wash Polyester Hats

Need to know how to wash polyester hats? Always remember to aash polyester hats with care. Polyester is composed of a chemical substance found in petroleum. This type of fabric holds shape pretty well and can be the ideal material for hats because it does crease and wrinkle as easily as other fabric materials do. Keep in mind however, that polyester hats need to be treated and washed with care just as much as other fabric materials. Keep your polyester hat in tip-top shape by washing it with all-purpose detergent and by maintaining the proper washing and drying settings.

To wash polyester hats, you will need:

  • All purpose clothing detergent
  • Fabric softner
  • Clothing line or hangers
  • Lint brush
  • Wash bowl or basin
  • 1/2 cup of white vinegar
  • Toothbrush
  1. First reverse hat inside out to prevent washer snags. Place the polyester hat in the washing machine. The setting should be on warm wash and the permanent press cycle. Add an all-purpose clothing detergent as stated on product label. If the hat has any stains, apply a small amount of detergent to the stain, rubbing it into the stain before starting wash.
  2. Add a clothing softener best for polyester fabrics. Adding a fabric softener can ensure that the hat will feel softer. Fabric softeners can also reduce the amount of static electricity on the hat.
  3. Polyester hats can dry safely in machine dryers. Simply apply a low, tumble-dry heat setting on the dryer, or if you would prefer to, allow the hat to air dry on a clothing line/hanger. Remove the hat from dryer or clothing line when completely dry, turning the hat back out to its original shape. Use a lint brush if needed to rid the hat of any lint.
  4. To remove stains or tough dirt or soil from polyester hats, soak the hat in cold water. It is recommended that you use a special stain remover that can be purchased from your local retailer. However, homemade stain and tough dirt removers can be just as effective. Make your own homemade solution with white vinegar and water and use an old toothbrush or rag to rub at the heavily soiled areas or stains.  Then wash polyester hat in a washing machine with a stain-fighting detergent.
  5. Let the hat air dry or place the hat in the dryer on low heat. Always remember to allow polyester hats to air dry when treating tough stains or grime. Excessive heat from the dryer can cause stains to become permanent on polyester material.
