How To Watch TV
People learn how to watch TV from a very young age. But as adults, most people perfect the art of television watching. Here are a few helpful hints.
- Get rid of all of the distractions. If you are really interested in watching tv, you need to take away all of the things that would take away your attention and focus. Consider taking the phone off the hook and planning to not answer the door. There should be no background music or conversations taking place while watching tv.
- Find a comfortable seat. This step becomes more important the longer you plan on sitting down to watch tv. Usually the best seat is on the furniture that is directly in front of the tv. You don't want to be so close that you get a headache and you don't want to sit so far away that you have to keep adjusting the volume.
- Be sure to have the remote. Even if you are planning on watching one show all the way through, you still need the remote. Don't forget about commercials. If they aren't entertaining and you have the remote handy, you can just check the scores quickly or catch a few minutes of the game.
- Refreshments are a must. Watching tv is not complete without something to eat and drink. If the tv watching falls into one of the traditional meal times, bring it with you in front of the tv. If it is an in between time, foods like chips, pretzels and even hot wings are acceptable. Also, whatever beverage you are drinking, think about having an extra one, preventing you from getting up in the middle of the show.
- Decide on a program or just channel surf. If a certain show is on, you want to be in front of the tv at least five minutes before it begins so as not to miss anything important. Many shows have been known to start 30 seconds early and reveal important insights or information. If you don't have the attention span for an entire show, consider channel surfing. Channel surfing is jumping around, with the remote, from channel to channel until something catches your eye. The best part about channel surfing is that you can stop whenever you want and settle into a show, or you can watch ten shows, seeing only a few minutes of each.
