How To Waterproof Shoes
Have you ever looked out your window at the terenchal downpour and wished you knew how to waterproof your shoes? You may have stepped in a puddle at one point of time and wondered the same question. With all the new products that have come out, there are so many different ways to waterproof your shoes.
Things you'll need:
- Waterproof spray protectant and/or beeswax
- Soft cloth
- Find out what type of shoe it is. For the most part, synthetic shoes are already waterproofed. For leather shoes, you have to find out if it is a fine leather or a very thick leather. You need this information to find out what type of product you need to use on the shoe.
- Buy the product. You can purchase beeswax or spray protectant. Beeswax works wonders on the thick leather and does not change the color of the shoe. The spray protectant works well with fine leather; the only issue is sometimes the spray may change the color of the shoe. You can find the spray protectant in different colors. If you want to make sure the spray will not change the color of your shoes, do a patch test on an area of the shoes that will not be seen.
- Applying the product. When you are applying the beeswax to the thick leather shoe, you should take a soft cloth and rub in the beeswax. Let it sit for a while, then wipe off any excess product. For the spray, you should spray one thin layer on the shoe and let sit. Wipe off excess spray.
It is very difficult to waterproof shoes made of cloth; however, you can waterproof the inside of the shoe by lining it with plastic. With all the tricks and products out there, you can waterproof almost any type of shoe.
